Kottayam: In an effort to save his pregnant wife and their child, a man walked through forest in heavy rain carrying his wife on shoulder for about 40 kms to get her to a hosptal, but failed to save the baby.
The tribal youth, Ayyappan, walked to Kokkathod which is about 40 kms away from the place where he was staying.
Ayyappan then managed to get a jeep to take his wife to a district hospital by 6pm from where she was referred to Kottayam medical college.
The baby could not be saved because the delivery of the dead foetus.
When the woman was bought to the hospital, she had oedema, high blood pressure and convulsion. Convulsion during pregnancy can affect both mother and child, doctor said.
The woma's life had been saved and she is recovering now.
