Nine-year-old found raped, murdered on Worli footpath

Mumbai: A nine-year old girl was found dead near Jijamata Nagar slums in Worli on Tuesday. The medical test was conducted and it confirmed that the girl was raped before being murdered.

The police received a call around 6:30 am that a minor girl was lying unconscious on the footpath. Police reached the spot and rushed the girl to a hospital where she was declared dead before admission.

The victim's father is a crane operator. He said my family sleeps on the footpath near our hutment at night. We realized that our daughter was missing only at 7 am when people informed us that police have taken our daughter to hospital.

Police are zeroing in on roadside dwellers, drug addicts and people residing in Jijamata Nagar slums who will be summoned to the police station for questioning.

As the news spread, the locality where the victim's family resides turned tense. The police reached the area and brought the situation under control.
