An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Galandewadi village, 100 km from Pune, on Thursday.
The girl was returning from school when the accused dragged her to a sugarcane field, raped her and then strangled her to death.
The child's body was found in the sugarcane field late on Thursday night.
The man suspected of raping an 11-year-old girl and then strangling her to death with a school tie has been arrested.
Nitin Kadam, 22, was arrested on Saturday night from the neighbouring village and has been remanded to police custody till September 2.
The victim was usually picked up by her father from her school. On Thursday, he couldn't. So, she started walking back home alone.
The accused finds the girl walking home alone, dragged her to a nearby sugarcane field where he raped and killed her.
The class 5 student had turned 11 last week on August 15.

"Criminals don't fear law... they will come after serving five to seven years in jail and who knows they may not do it again?" asked a village elder.
