A Robertsdale man accused of colluding with his wife to secretly record his stepdaughter while she was nude will spend the rest of his life in prison.
John Smith, 54, pleaded guilty in February to charges of production of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Circuit Court Judge sentenced Smith on Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole and to 99 years. He will serve the sentences consecutively.The judge sentenced Smith, who has three other felony convictions, under the habitual offender act.
In 2005, Smith and his wife, Virginia Booth Smith, were indicted on similar charges. Virginia Smith was sentenced to life in prison in 2007.
Frances Cottle told the court during Friday's hearing for John Smith what her mother and stepfather did to her when she was a teenager.
"She testified that they did drugs with her and prevented her from having a normal teenaged life and relationships," the Baldwin County District Attorney's Office said in a news release. "Cottle said that both her mother and stepfather tried to convince her to have Smith’s baby."
